Small-Town Living Built on Big Oklahoma History

Glenpool may be one of the Tulsa area’s smaller communities, but its history helped shape Oklahoma itself.

On November 22, 1905, wildcatters struck oil on farmland belonging to Ida E. Glenn, a Creek allotment owner, just south of what was then a small, unremarkable town called Tulsa. The Glenn Pool field that resulted became one of the most significant oil discoveries in American history, created more new wealth than the California Gold Rush, and gave a start to the men who’d go on to found Sinclair Oil and Getty Oil. Tulsa’s rise as the “Oil Capital of the World” traces directly back to that farm, which is exactly why Glenpool still calls itself the town that made Tulsa famous.

Today, Glenpool offers something quite different: a quieter pace, newer neighborhoods, and homes that are often more affordable than comparable properties closer to Tulsa. Established areas sit alongside new construction in communities like Pine Ridge and Scissortail Park, with modern floor plans and larger yards at prices that consistently run below comparable homes closer to Tulsa. Black Gold Park anchors the town’s recreation with walking trails, a splash pad, and space for the seasonal festivals that give Glenpool its small-town feel.

Highway 75 puts residents about 20 to 25 minutes from downtown Tulsa, and daily conveniences continue to grow as new retail and restaurants follow the city’s steady expansion

The tradeoff is that Glenpool doesn’t yet offer the same depth of shopping, dining, or entertainment as larger neighboring communities. Most residents simply make the short drive into Jenks or Tulsa when they want more options.

Whether you’re looking for your first home, new construction, or a neighborhood with room to grow, Glenpool offers a variety of options just south of Tulsa.
